Landmarks of My Memories

1980-2000

I have always been interested in architecture and design. Especially, my area of interest is the sociological context and spatial relations that architectural tradition points to. The changing relationship between architecture and photography fascinates me. From being a tool to document built heritages, photographs have today developed to be an independent art form. Photographs can make a personal history a public memory, and public history a personal memory, imbuing an immortal quality that transcends time and space limitations. In Landmarks of my Memories, the concept of memory and history reverberates at several layers. Shot in and around the West Kochi islands using a medium format film camera, these landmark structures evoke a lot of childhood memories, yet they also remind the colonial past. Landmarks of my Memories is one of the earliest memory projects from India.
